Pilot Egress Modules
In this segment, you will meet Bryan as he gives you a bit of his background and an overview of what will be learned in this course.
As a pilot you are legally required to brief all your passengers about the safety features and other important information about your aircraft. This segment reviews the information that you should be providing each and every flight.
Seat Belts are a key to your survival in the event of crash. But some models of belts or improper fastening can create problems that will make egress more difficult.
Doors, windows and hatches are the gateway to safety, but during an emergency egress, simple tasks like opening the door can become confusing. This segment provides some basic tips to help you get out.
There are four simple, but critical steps that should be followed to successfully egress from a submerged aircraft. Bryan reviews each in this video segment.
Every float plane or wheel aircraft that travels beyond gliding distance of land if required to carry one lifejacket for each person on board. In this segment Bryan provides some tips on carriage, use and wearing of this legally required piece of safety equipment.
Once you are out of the plane and floating with your lifejacket on, you will need to deal with the environment. This segment provides some basic information about how to deal with the environment you are in and alerting others that you need help.
You are not necessarily ‘out of the woods’ once you have successfully egressed. In many cases you will still need to get to shore. In this video segment Bryan reviews some of the things you must consider to make that final trip to safety.
Preparation is the key to successfully ditch overwater, especially in wheel equipped aircraft. This segment provides a checklist of what you and your passengers should do while you are gliding to an unscheduled water landing.
Depending on the type of aircraft you are flying and its landing gear configuration (low vs high wing, amphibian, etc.) the way that you deal with landing on the water will be different. Bryan reviews the types of gear in this video segment and how to maximize the design to make the safest possible landing.
What you carry aboard the aircraft to help you survive while waiting for help to arrive can make the difference between life and death. In this segment you will learn what to carry onboard in summer or winter.
What to consider before landing or taking off on any ice surface, and what to do should the aircraft fall through the ice.
